Mercedes: For Our Daughters
Mercedes E. Wilson is a transformational speaker, author, television personality, event emcee, and founder of a non-profit, “For Our Daughters”. After her breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 28, the desire to help others and live a life of triumph was so heavy that she had to act on it. Every experience, positive or negative, every tear, and every gift given to her by God will be used to give hope to others.
Mercedes founded, For Our Daughters Inc, which is a non-profit dedicated to teaching young women how to advocate for themselves in regards to their health and well being. For Our Daughters was birthed out of Mercedes’ painful breast cancer diagnosis, and how she was unaware of her own family medical history. Over six thousand young women, and counting, have been nurtured and equipped with the tools necessary to have serious conversations about their health through educational workshops and the annual Mother-Daughter Luncheon.
As a 501(c)3 organization, the aim of For Our Daughters is to assist young women between the ages of 11-19 with living longer, healthier lives by taking the reigns on their health. They believe that every young woman should know her family history and be proactive in speaking up when something isn’t quite right with her body. This is accomplished by going into both middle and high schools all over western New York, spending time with young women in an effort to show them how to open up dialogue with the loved ones in their lives. They talk about not only the importance of learning ones own family history, but also to become comfortable talking about their own health.
Lack of knowledge kills too many young women today, and For Our Daughters, Inc. is on a mission to help change this. For Our Daughters, Inc. is aiming to play a large part in seeing young women all over WNY live long, healthy lives. Their efforts have allowed us to be featured in several news pieces over the years and in 2014, For Our Daughters received the “Community Angel Award” from Women’s Health radio.

When you meet Mercedes, you can feel the passion that she has to help others do better and make better choices in life. She has a strong sense of hope, that is grounded in her faith.
We were inspired by HER strength to find her voice and confidence while never loosing hope along her life journey.
She serves as a source of encouragement and hope to so many people that we wanted to choose stones that would reflect that. For this collection, it was important to design pieces that you can wear everyday - each with beads to serves as reminders as you say your mantas or prayers. The combination of rose quartz in the middle of the amazonite is a reminder that hope is rooted in strength. When you feel like you don’t have one, you always have the other.
We all have a strength that is rooted in hope. May you find yours.
